We do not coordinate travel here at present. Where a business briefing exists, it stands.

Two governments currently advise against travel to Mali. The US State Department maintains Level 4 Do Not Travel, reissued on 8 June 2026. The UK FCDO advises against all travel to Mali, against all but essential travel to Bamako and within 25km of it, and urges British nationals already in the country to leave by commercial flight while it is safe to do so. Coordinating leisure travel against that guidance would be indefensible, so we do not offer it. This status is reviewed on its own schedule and will change when the guidance does.

01 / City & connections

Bamako and the Niger River

The river is a defining feature of Mali’s capital. Our market briefing looks at the commercial setting, regional connections and questions that require further investigation.

02 / Landscape & heritage

The earthen architecture of Djenné

Djenné’s historic townscape is internationally recognised for its earthen architecture. This is a view of Mali’s cultural heritage; the travel page separately explains our current position on visits.

What Mali Actually Is.

Written from official sources and reviewed August 2026. Where a claim could not be settled, it is not here.

Capital Africa does not coordinate travel to Mali at present, and this page exists to say so plainly rather than to leave the question open.

Two governments currently advise against travel. The US State Department maintains a Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory, reissued on 8 June 2026, citing crime, terrorism, unrest, health and kidnapping, and restricting its own employees from travelling outside Bamako. The UK FCDO advises against all travel to Mali and against all but essential travel to Bamako and to places within 25km of it, noting that groups operating in the country retain the capability and intent to target the capital, and that support for British nationals is severely limited.

We will not publish itineraries, heritage tours or destination marketing for Mali while that is the position. Nothing about the country’s cultural significance changes the guidance, and dressing the guidance up as an inconvenience would be a disservice to anyone reading this.

What does remain available is the business intelligence. The Mali market briefing under Regions is current and is reviewed on its own schedule, and remote advisory support continues. If your interest in Mali is commercial rather than a visit, that is the route.

Business Travel

Why People Come.

Business support for Mali is remote. We provide market intelligence, counterparty work and advisory support without coordinating travel into the country. If a visit is unavoidable for commercial reasons, that is a decision for you and your own security advisers, taken on current professional advice, and it is not something we arrange.

Travel Status

Current Conditions.

Government advisories, attributed and dated. Where two governments disagree, both are published. Read them alongside your own government’s current advice, and note that travelling against it can invalidate your insurance.

United States Department of State

Level 4: Do Not Travel

Do not travel to Mali for any reason, because of crime, terrorism, unrest, health and kidnapping. US government employees are not permitted to travel outside Bamako.

As stated 8 June 2026

UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

Advise against all travel

Advises against all travel to Mali, and against all but essential travel to Bamako and to places within 25km of Bamako, because of the risk of terrorist attacks and kidnap. British nationals in Mali are urged to leave by commercial flight while it is safe to do so. Consular support is severely limited.

Areas we do not plan travel to

  • All of Mali, with Bamako and the area within 25km of it at all but essential travel

As stated 2026

Travel conditions, entry requirements and government advisories change faster than any website. Everything here carries the date it was reviewed. Before you travel, check your own government’s current advice and confirm entry requirements with the relevant diplomatic mission.

What we could not settle

  • This status rests entirely on current government advisories and is reviewed on a shorter cycle than the rest of the travel coverage for that reason. The next review is set for November 2026, and the status will be changed if the guidance changes.
  • No destination content is published for Mali, including places of genuine cultural significance. That is deliberate. Publishing a destination guide alongside a Do Not Travel advisory would be marketing dressed as information.
